There are just some items that every girl needs, like a block of chocolate, emergency tissues and a spare hair tie.

After a lot of thinking and bit of help from the Klementine team, I’ve come up with five essential items that every girl needs.

A lot of you probably have a lot of these things and I’m not saying these will save your life in an emergency but I am saying that your life will be a hell of a lot easier with them.

Without further ado here’s my go-to guide on the essentials

1. Phone Case Wallet - eBay has them a dime-a-dozen and, as a member of the pocketless-outfit sex, they're a God-send.

Ditch the little clutch or bag, stick your cash, cards and ID into your phone case and tuck it down the side of your dress/top or if it has a handy wrist strap you can slip it on your arm with no worries.

While you’re on the dance floor you don’t have to worry about dropping it mid-twerk. Best of all you don’t have to do everything one handed.

2. Lip Balm - I’m not talking lipgloss or lipstick (though they’re handy too) I mean lip balm to keep your lips all soft and smooth.

If I was stuck on a deserted island I’d be lying if I said I could survive without lip balm.

Who hasn’t been out when you suddenly feel like you’ve got chapped lips only to discover you left your lip balm at home.

My personal preference is Nivea because they’ve got a great range, they’re all sticks for easy application and some even have a light tint which makes them pretty as well.

If you like a bit of tingle then you have to try Burt’s Bees original lip balm.

3. Wheat- Heat pack - Whether it’s that time of the month when Mother Nature makes you her bitch, post-workout or a cold winter’s night sans bed-buddy, a wheat-pack is the best kind of portable warmth.

See our article on '5 Ways to deal with period pain' for more tips on beating the bitch

Last Christmas I bought myself a fluffy ladybird whose tummy contained a little heat pack I could microwave and then snuggle with in winter. If ladybirds aren’t your thing, wheat-heat packs are pretty easy to find or even make yourself.

5. A Best Friend - someone to stick by you always (assuming you don’t do anything illegal or immoral) and bring the chocolate and/or alcohol when your week was just that bad.

Unfortunately, I can’t give you a locale on where to pick one of these up (along with the boyfriend shop and the money tree, the best friend market is just a dream). You just sort of acquire them through life, through growing up together, embarrassing situations or extended time spent in confined spaces. Sometimes they’re different faces but they’ve always got your back.

4. Perfume - It takes time to find the right smell but one day you’ll walk past the perfume counter and find your smell. You rush home and throw out the four other bottles you’ve stockpiled over the years because nothing can beat/be better than your perfume.

It may take a while to find the perfect smell. My suggestion would be to just get smelling. Everytime you walk past a perfume counter try one on. Be careful, don’t try too many at once, your nose can get a little overwhelmed.
