1. A Message in a Bottle
Reflecting on past events, both good and bad, is a key part of being able to develop and grow positively. Denial or dwelling on negativity — a break-up, fight, failed exam or pessimistic thought — will not change what has happened but will stop any positive mindset you wish to achieve.
A good reflection technique is to write down key events (no matter how small) everyday and place them in a jar. When you feel ready, go through them. Read each event, remembering your feelings and thoughts and acknowledging how far you have come. You should be positive about your development over time, and remain optimistic that more change will come in the future.

2. Meditate
It is important to take time out and relax. The best place is bed at nighttime, just before falling asleep. It’s key to allow yourself to unwind and think about the events of your day. Not just your own actions, the actions of those around you too — a compliment, laughing with a friend, feeling a love connection with someone close to you.
Meditation allows reflection on the effect you have on others and helps you stay thankful. You can then set goals for what you would like to do better the following day and evokes feelings of positivity that you are living to your full potential. Live with the mindset that when you look back you will be happy with what you have done. Light some candles, play some gentle music (for example, ocean sounds) and let your mind go.

3. Daydreaming
This builds upon meditation. You will find that when you daydream your thoughts are often positive. For example, imagine a date with the cute boy you like: you’re happy and it’s going really well. When you open your eyes you will find that the positive energy from that thought will stay with you all day. This keeps you optimistic that happiness is achievable.

4. Talk to others
First, surround yourself with happy, like-minded people, as environment heavily impacts your thinking. Always remember that everybody goes through tough times. To an extent it is important you work through these yourself, but talking to others about problems is healthy and helpful. Seek advice and it will come. Make sure you take it into consideration!
