Too often, both girls and guys ask me why I go out as much as I do when I have a boyfriend. Sadly enough, it’s often accusatory rather than just curious. People generally seem to have the idea that clubbing is for getting with strangers and not much else. That is so far from the truth.
Clubbing is fun for a number of reasons, with or without your boyfriend!
1. There’s something on every single weekend
Got your first weekend off work in ages but there’s no party, nobody is having drinks, nothing? Get some mates together and party with 500 other people who are guaranteed to be there.
2. Dancing for 6 hours straight is 100% okay
If you went to a house party and spent the entire time dancing, and I mean the entire time, with only toilet and occasional I-need-a-glass-of-water breaks, people would probably think you’re weird. And they’d probably be right.
I often go to clubs with just one friend who enjoys breaking it down as much as I do, where we will spend the entire time on the dance floor. It’s amazing fun, amazing exercise, and there aren’t many other places you can do it!
3. I don’t care if it’s 3am, I’m not tired!
How many times have you wanted to keep partying but the party is over? To the club, I say!
Where we will party until 4pm the next day, because some places are open that late!
4. Knowing the DJ’s and performers makes for a long, cheap concert
If you have a favourite DJ who plays the perfect mix of trance and house, going to a club to see them has the same appeal as going to see a band at Festival Hall. You get to hear your fave music, appreciate the artist, and be surrounded by like-minded people.
5. It’s easy to cater to every whim and mood that you might have
In the mood for some indie/rock? Psychedelic trance? R’n’B? Melbourne has so many venues you’re spoiled for choice, and you’ll almost definitely find a place that has exactly the right music and vibe to hit the spot on whatever you’re feeling.
6. You may know absolutely no one there
I’ll be straight up, I’m a wiggler. I love it because it’s so much fun to do! Pretty much no one else I know can stand it. You won’t find me wiggling at any party, or any local club, because without a doubt someone I know will see me and give me shit for it.
At places in the city, where it’s much less likely I’ll run into someone I know, I’m free to dance however I like, even with random other people who enjoy it just as much as I do.
It also means you can dress however you like, drink as much as you like (just be safe!), and be whoever the hell you want to be without fear of “OH MY GOD did you see what so-and-so from Jackie’s party was wearing…” the next day.
7. You may know almost everybody there
Most clubs have solid fan base of people who are there every other week. Generally these people all know each other and will talk to each other when out. Getting to know the regulars means you have a party on every single week with people you know, in a place you enjoy.
Just remember girls, if it’s an activity you enjoy, and you know you’re not doing anything wrong, don’t let anyone stop you from doing it!
