Are we too aware?

Are we taking self awareness to a dangerous level?

Self-awareness is a fantastic trait to have. Women today are trying to figure out the difference between who they are, who they think they are and who they want to be. It’s a complex time, and self- awareness is not all that common. Knowing one’s own capabilities and limits can be extremely difficult and those who have the skill usually have control over their lives.

But with social expectations pushing perfection and flawlessness onto today’s females, it’s not surprising that most young woman have recently become too aware. Its taken self-awareness to a whole new level. Instead of understanding themselves and coming to terms with what they look like, woman have become overly aware of things that bring down their confidence and self-esteem.

The expectation of women to look absolutely flawless has made many aspire to unrealistic and ridiculous forms. Photoshop has skewed both men and woman’s perception of what they should look like. While dreaming of being the best you can be is a fantastic drive for life, completely altering yourself to extremes can have devastating effects on your body.

5 inspirational female characters of TV

While some of our favourite TV shows may be fictional, the female characters that grace the screen are a real inspiration. Here at our 5 favourite women of TV!

Nearly 49 percent of woman who took a survey with Science Nordic considered having plastic surgery. Valeria Lukyanova is a Ukrainian woman, who took plastic surgery to an extreme. Her body shape is similar to today’s current Barbie doll. Blonde hair past her elbows, eyes wide and extremely blue. Many on the internet speculated that she was fake, and thought images of her were Photo-shopped. You know something’s wrong when someone has had so much plastic surgery that they’re believed to be Photo-shopped.

When women look in the mirror, instead of telling themselves how fantastic they look, they tell themselves how much flab they have or how bad their skin is. If we nit-pick our own bodies we are mentally destroying ourselves. There is no harsher critic than ourselves, especially, when it comes to our looks. Learning to love our own body gives you confidence and a fantastic feeling when getting ready for the day.

Being too aware and overanalysing our insecurities and imperfections is making many of us fall victim to the unrealistic expectations put on women. Dr Bryan Mendelson, a plastic surgeon, told The Telegraph that “people have surgery not to impress others, they do it to impress themselves.” It’s sad that some women don’t feel they live up to their own standards.

The only way that we can get rid of this over awareness is to not sweat the little things. Sometimes we all have days when a certain outfit doesn’t look as good as it usually does. Maybe the weather is messing up your makeup. Who knows? But these little things only last for a day! Instead of dwelling on a small moment of your life, turn your attention to better things that are going for you. Maybe your hair looks amazing today or a pair of new shoes is making your legs look great.

Stop being overly aware and stop stressing yourself out! Embrace the person you are and don’t listen to the critics of the world. Before we stop the unrealistic expectations of women, we need to stop the unrealistic expectations we put on ourselves.
